Homemade Pepperoni Rolls

I recently was talking with a friend of mine and we got on the famous “what’s for dinner?” subject.  As we normally do we discussed some things and then she told me about how she makes her pepperoni rolls.  Well, you know me, I had to try it.  I made them and they were a hit!  So then I had to try it again just to make sure.  Total awesomeness!  Of course I do things a bit different then her so here is the total awesome goodness!

What you need:

  • Frozen bread dough
  • Shredded mozzarella (I get the big block and shred my own)
  • Pepperoni
  • Half a stick or so of melted butter
  • Your favorite sprinkle seasonings such as garlic, parsley, oregano, sprinkle cheese, etc
  • Flour
  • Rolling pin or a large glass works well too
  • Pizza sauce (this is optional and great for dipping)
  • Optional – various other toppings of your choice
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Here’s what you do:

  1. Thaw bread dough according to package directions.
  2. Once bread dough is thawed take a handful and place on the dusted flour on your work surface and roll out the dough as best as you can.  Sort of like rolling out cookie or pie dough.
  3. Put a nice layer of Pepperoni down in the middle of the dough but leaving enough room around so that you can fold the sides in.
  4. Put a good layer of your shredded cheese down.
  5. If you decide to use any other topping you can do this now.  But remember to leave enough room to fold.
  6. Now fold your sides in or you can roll.   I’ve found it works best if you take the top and bottom and bring them in first then take a side and fold over.  Then do a bit of a roll with it and the other side will fold over.
  7. Place pepperoni roll folded side down on  cookie sheet.
  8. Repeat steps 2 – 7 until you have used all the dough.
  9. Take your melted butter and brush each roll.
  10. Then sprinkle your seasonings on each one.
  11. Place your rolls on in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes or until done.
  12. Once they are done let them cool for a few minutes as they will be very hot.
  13. Dip in pizza sauce and enjoy!
